Lamaze Australia

Lamaze childbirth education was first introduced in Australia by Tanya Cawthorne in 2012 when she returned to Australia following a number of years living overseas. In 2016, Tanya launched the first Australian Lamaze childbirth educator training program and to date, over 100 people have completed their training to become a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Lamaze has enjoyed continual growth in Australia, and we are proud to have our very own Lamaze Australia, the first ever affiliate of Lamaze International.

Lamaze Australia, which is a not-for-profit organisation was officially launched in 2019 and co-founded by Tanya Cawthorne and Leslie Arnott.

Lamaze International is widely acknowledged to be the gold standard in antenatal education and is the ONLY childbirth education program approved by the National Council of Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The vision of Lamaze International is “knowledgeable parents making informed decisions”.

Our mission is to advance safe and healthy pregnancy, birth and early parenting in Australia through evidence-based education and advocacy.

Lamaze Australia acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders - past, present and emerging.

Lamaze Australia also recognises the traditional birthing wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the importance of reinstating birthing on country.
